Whimsy Stamps - World Card Making Day 2018 Blog Hop & Giveaway
Hello Crafty Friends and Welcome to World Card Making Day with Whimsy Stamps! We are so excited for you to join the fun today with an amazing blog hop from the talented Whimsy artists. Each blog will have some inspiration with a card perfect for World Card Making Day.
My inspiration card today uses the wonderful, just released, Winter Roses Background stamp.
Here is how I created my card:
I stamped the large rose image and the single rose image from the Winter Roses Background stamp with antique linen Distress ink onto Canson 140lbs watercolor paper. I always use the smooth side of the paper when stamping my images onto watercolor paper. Using antique linen creates an outline that will fade while coloring with watercolors and the image will have a no-lines look.
I used Daniel Smith extra fine watercolors - one of my favorite brands if it comes to fine art watercolors. I love their vibrant pigment. After coloring the image I let it dry and did some detailing with Prismacolor pencils (a list of all colors used is posted below).
Then I fussy cut the images. Now I want to add some foiled details. With a quickie glue pen I traced the dotted lines and the outline of the single rose. After the glue dries it stays tacky. This is how we attach the foil to the image. I took a piece of gold transfer foil (the one you usually use with a laminator, e.g. deco foil) and placed it over my images and softly rubbed with my fingers. The foil sticks everywhere I put down glue. Now I have foiled dotted lines and my single rose has a golden shiny outline. This gives a real nice effect.
Now I have to create my background panel. I put down a golden watercolor wash (quinacridone gold) using a panel of watercolor paper. Let it dry. I sprinkled on some splatters with quinacridone purple and let it dry again.
My card base is a top fold 4 1/2" x 5 1/2" card cut from white heavy weight (100lb) cardstock. To make the image pop I used a black cardstock layer underneath my background layer. I added the roses with foam tape to give some dimension to the card.
I used my Quickie glue pen again to put some dots on the background layer (between the purple splatters) and after they dried I added gold foil again.
The sentiment is from the Holiday Mini Everyday Sentiments stamped on gold cardstock that has a satin sheen. One of my leftovers from an older PaperDoor kit. I added the sentiment using foam tape.
As a final touch I added some dew drops and tiny rhinestones.
